MEET ALISON
My journey as a worship artist began a few years ago after I received words of encouragement from members of my church. I saw swirls of white cascading down a canvas. I pulled out various craft supplies and paint, along with my Bible and the words of encouragement I had written down, and I created the piece you see at the top left. It represents the comfort of the Holy Spirit and truths about my identity in Christ that were highlighted for me. The next day I saw the words, "Alison, Make Art," in my mind, and I have been painting and creating with the Holy Spirit since then.
I am inspired by worship music, Scripture, and Biblical teachings, often incorporating swirl and wave motifs. After sketching what I see in my mind, I will later search in the Bible and talk to God about the painting, allowing colors and details to take shape. I paint to music, either listening to the worship song that sparked the image, or a song I find that compliments the image God gave me during a sermon or my Bible study. What I experience while painting is a special time of closeness with God, and that closeness is poured into every piece of art I create.
When I feel led to create a piece for someone God highlights, I ask the Holy Spirit for more details –colors, words, Scriptures, and a song. Each painting comes with a handwritten description of its inspiration and meaning, serving as a tangible reminder of God’s personal love and presence.
Art created with the Holy Spirit can change atmospheres. My paintings stand as a visual reminder of the spiritual realm surrounding us. It’s easy to get caught up in daily life and forget the bigger picture — the eternal perspective that God is always working, even when we can’t see it. Having an eternal perspective means recognizing that our lives are part of a greater story — one that stretches beyond our current circumstances into God’s eternal kingdom. This perspective reminds us to lift our eyes above the temporary and trust that God’s presence, promises, and purposes are always at work. I find joy in the hope that my paintings will remind you of the sovereignty and majesty of Christ, God’s unseen forces working on our behalf, and the comfort and power of the Holy Spirit.
I love using glitter, metallic, and iridescent paints to capture a sense of the ethereal and reflect the Mystery of God. When a painting catches sunlight or flickers in candlelight, it's a reminder that there's more happening than meets the eye — and that we were created to shine and reflect God's light, no matter our circumstances. The holographic glitter specifically represents God’s glory. As explored in "What is God’s Glory?" from the Theology of Work project, "God’s glory is His “weightiness” in qualities like might, beauty, goodness, justice, and honor — all in superabundance. His glory is not just something to behold but something He shares with us. When we receive His gifts with gratitude, use them to honor Him, and acknowledge Him as the source of all goodness, we glorify Him."
Beyond painting, I also create wall art inspired by my love of words and personal need for visual faith reminders. Incorporate Biblical truth as a part of your home decor to reinforce your faith, support your personal and family goals, and inspire growth.
I am a collector of heart-shaped rocks and quotes. I love learning, reading, decorating, creating, painting, and encouraging others. While I love the idea of minimalism, I lovingly describe my space as a living collage.
Above all, I can’t imagine life without the Father, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus — the ultimate source of my joy, strength, creativity, and inspiration. May my art bring you closer to Him, reminding you of His constant presence, His promises, and His overwhelming endless love for you.
